An lllustration : A Short Story

Hi guys,

As you may or may not know, I got a small illustration assignment last week with a fairly quick turnaround. I got the assignment on Saturday afternoon, submitted sketches on Monday morning and sent over the final early on Friday morning.  I apologize for promising to live-post my process, but I figured just summing everything up in one entry would be easier to follow. Hopefully this is marginally interesting or helpful for all you guys pursuing the humble craft of commercial illustration.

This assignment was a bit different than ones I’ve done in the past because I had very loose guidelines to follow with regards to dimensions (it could have been portrait or landscape) and I had some room to experiment with my initial sketches/ideas when I was working on the final. This is ultimately a notable privilege because I’ve gotten illustration jobs in the past where my role was to basically just ‘realize’ the art director’s specific concept.
